Preparation of Conference Material
All speakers are required to produce material for the conference literature
The Online Information conference literature is used as an onsite and post-show resource by hundreds of international delegates. Published in print and on the event website, the conference literature is also used as a reference tool by many individuals unable to attend the conference in person.
Delegates plan their day not only according to the programme line up but by reading through the conference literature in advance which can influence which sessions they finally attend. Remember the delegates have three tracks to choose from so their attention is not guaranteed to be yours!
Quality and comprehensiveness are essential in producing excellent value conference literature. We do not set strict word limits or style guides for presentation (all material will be edited and page set by our Editorial Team prior to production) we ask only that the material is of a suitably high quality and reflects the content and style of your planned onsite presentation.
Types of conference literature:
Option A - full written paper
If you were invited to speak via the call for speakers then you agreed to submit a full conference paper and need to follow OPTION A. Please click here for more information.
Option B - abstract
If you were invited to speak by the Conference Manager, you can either provide a full paper (option A) or an extended abstract & slides (option B)
Please
click here to download the submission form. Please read the following guidelines when preparing your abstract: - The abstract should highlight the key points of your presentation and conclusions drawn.
- Please list keywords that relate to your abstract at the start of the paper.
- Please ensure the PowerPoint slides are available for publication in black and white (no black backgrounds please).
- Please keep the number of slides to a minimum – only 10-15 slides are required for a 20-25 minute presentation.
- Slides should include no more than 6 bulleted lines of text at a suitable font size and are kept clean, clear and easy to read/navigate.
- Here's a (lighthearted) guide to what makes a good presentation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLpjrHzgSRM
We understand that this set of slides may not be your final version, however please do not change the running order of the slides as this will cause confusion to delegates.
After the conference your PowerPoint presentation will be converted to PDF and added to the Online web proceedings. Please email Lorna Candy if you would prefer we did not do this.
Option A - full written papers
Delegates find a lot of value in the full written papers. Typical length tends to be around 4-5000 words but this is just a guide. Please have a look below at the various types of paper you could produce:
Research results : back up a research-based talk not only with the research results themselves, but an outline of research scope and methodology, and a summary of the most interesting conclusions.
Opinion/debate : if you are to assess or comment on specific developments in a thematic area then either a review piece or a more of a discursive, opinion piece would suit.
Case studies : should include an outline of the factors prompting a project, comments on the planning and implementation phases, the strategy and methods used, and a review of the lessons learned.
Strategy reviews : benefit from a well planned, structured and segmented written paper. Ensure you focus clearly on particular issues and conclude with lessons learnt or ideas for future planning/projects.
Technical tutorials : can be hard to put into writing as they rely on demonstration but we’d like you to try! Back up clear, step by step commentary with uncomplicated graphics and limited, well-chosen screen shots. ‘In action’ mini-case studies can be used profitably to highlight complicated technology features and functions.
Graphics
Tables, graphics and screen grabs can enhance understanding by presenting information more creatively. If you wish to include graphics in your literature, please supply all images as follows:
Individual picture files, ie Tif, EPS or JPG
Please do NOT embed these into the word document (Please indicate in the copy where each image needs to be placed followed by any caption it requires)
Please ensure the image is 300dpi print quality
If images are supplied in a format that does not match the above specification then we cannot guarantee the print quality of this image.
Resource lists, bibliographies, URLs
These are particularly useful if you wish to direct delegates and readers to more comprehensive information resources, please list these at the end of the paper. Also please include a list of keywords at the start of your paper.
Please note that all material in the conference proceedings are copywritten to Incisive Media
