Introducing the UK Library and Information Science Research Coalition

In March 2009 he British Library, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, the Joint Information Systems Committee, the Museums Libraries and Archives Council and the Research Information Network established the Library and Information Science Research Coalition. The Coalition has a very specific remit: to facilitate a co-ordinated and strategic approach to Library and Information Science (LIS) research across the UK. In this session Dr Hazel Hall will discuss the Coalition's activities to date. These are focused on bringing together information about LIS research opportunities and results; encouraging dialogue between research funders; promoting LIS practitioner research and the translating of research outcomes into practice; articulating a strategic approach to LIS research; and promoting the development of research capacity in LIS. Delegates are invited to come along to this session to hear how the LIS Research Coalition has been working towards providing a formal structure to improve access to LIS research and maximising its relevance and impact in the UK, as well as learn how they may play a role in this work.
