WELCOME MESSAGE FROM OUR NEW CONFERENCE CHAIRMAN, STEPHEN DALE:

I think most of us working in the information industry would agree that the recession has bitten deeply into most organisations and has focused minds on efficiency, value for money and how to get more from less.
Survival is all about being innovative with the resources we have, developing new and more effective ways of working and creating products that will sell in an increasingly competitive market. Adapting to a changing environment is no easy task but one that also offers abundant opportunties for the information professional. This year's conference gets to the heart of these issues and will demonstrate that as the social media revolution continues, organisations are finding new and innovative ways of connecting with their customers and reducing operational costs.
For information or knowledge professionals it is a challenging, bewildering and exciting time. However you view the future you can be certain that change and innovation is accelerating. New leaders are emerging with the vision to adapt or change their business models to embrace the opportunities created by the social web and the cloud.
With this in mind the conference offers four strong tracks which will look at:
• Exploiting open and linked data
• Harnessing opportunity from the social web and 'the cloud'
• Information Professionals demonstrating value and impact
• New platforms and user behaviours for delivering content
To challenge your thinking and broaden your horizons we are delighted to have secured Dion Hinchcliffe to open this year's conference. Dion will focus on how the new dominance of social and mobile are remaking life and business and what the implications are of these generational changes in technology and online networks.
Overall we can promise 3 days of thought provoking sessions that will signpost emerging trends and prepare you and your organisation for the knowledge and information challenges of 2011.
I look forward to seeing you at the conference.
Stephen Dale
Conference Chairman
